In the light of a reduction in core funding from the BMC, the trustees of the Mountain Heritage Trust have decided to sell two paintings to help ameliorate the loss of this essential income. Both these paintings are fully owned by the MHT. Our archival collections cannot and will not be sold. The successful sale of these paintings will enable the essential work of the MHT to continue.
The first piece at auction is “Scaffell Crag” (2001) by prominent Lakeland and mountain painter Julian Cooper. This was originally commissioned by the MHT for the National Mountaineering Exhibition at Rheged.
Scaffell Crag is lot number 741 https://www.mitchellsauction.co.uk/antiques-fine-art/forthcoming-sales-events/1149/?search=true&lot=741
The second piece at auction is “Birkness Combe” (1983) by Bill Peascod. The picture was donated to the MHT with permission for us to sell it in order to raise funds for the Trust. Peascod is a legend of Lakeland climbing. He is the subject of the documentary At Home in the Steep Places and featured in Lakeland Rock climbing the classic lake district multi-pitch Eagle Front VS 4c on Eagle Crag with Chris Bonington.
The Peascod is lot number 742. https://www.mitchellsauction.co.uk/antiques-fine-art/forthcoming-sales-events/1149/?search=true&lot=742
