The Mountain Heritage Trust is delighted to announce that Emma Twyford is joining the charity as an Ambassador. Emma Twyford is one of the reigning queens of British climbing, best known for her trad climbing prowess. Her exceptional CV of on-sights and flashes up to E8, alongside hard E9 headpoints, provides convincing evidence of her comfort on the sharp end and sets an impressive bar for modern day British trad climbing. She has also bouldered 7C+ and, in September 2019, she became the first British woman to break into the ninth grade with her ascent of The Big Bang in North Wales. As well as being a top climber, Emma has a BSc in Sport Science and Coaching, is a successful freelance route setter, runs women’s route setting workshops and bakes a mean meringue roulade.
Emma says: “I'm joining Mountain Heritage Trust as an ambassador because the history of climbing means a lot to me. I grew up watching Lakeland Rock with the likes of Bill Peascod, Don Whillans and Pete Livesey. I think growing up in the Lake District gave me an understanding of just how impressive these first ascents were whilst climbing some of them and my Dad is an encyclopedia of knowledge. The fact that Mountain Heritage Trust has a collection of historical artefacts near Keswick ties in nicely and I'd like to support them in sharing some of the knowledge.”
To continue our ever increasing preservation and engagement work we are actively looking for financial donations of any amount.
